Curriculum

In essence, the transfer from Year 4 to Year 5 is like the move from primary to secondary education. Rather than having almost all of their lessons in one classroom, the boys have to move from class to class with the lessons being held in subject-specialist teaching areas. We make this change at the Year 5 stage to allow us to deliver the demanding Common Entrance curriculum which drives the senior part of the school.

Once boys have entered the Senior School, broad setting by ability is extended to English, Science, French, History and Geography, along with the introduction of Latin. This means that boys can be taught in small groups and receive a lot of individual attention, support and guidance.

This transition is hugely beneficial to the boys as they head towards the National Curriculum Tests at Key Stage 2 and success in entrance and scholarship examinations at 11 and 13 to selective day and boarding schools.
